The simulation topic that I have chosen is school readiness.
I would like to know what factors contribute to a child being ready for their elementary
school journey. How does a child’s parental involvement impact their readiness,
does a child’s social/emotional developmental state play a factor and also how
does play contribute to a child’s school readiness.
I currently work with preschool children and have a child
who will enter preschool next year and one who is in Kindergarten this year so
the topic of school readiness is a personal one for me. I would like to be able
to provide the parents that I work with researched based information and I would
also like to make sure that I am doing everything possible to ensure that my children
are ready for school.
I look forward to learning and sharing with my colleagues as
I continue on this journey so please feel free to provide me with any insight
or resources that you feel are relevant to my topic and I will do the same.
You are so right. When looking at a child's readiness for school it is so important to look at the whole child not just their academic readiness. If a child is not emotionally secure they are going to require additional instruction in how to be successful in school. Understanding parent involvement and how to engage it in a positive manner is also another important key in school readiness. Good luck in your research!
ReplyDeleteHi Andrea,
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with your post. It is deem for all children to be ready for kindergarten socially and academically. Children are most of time prepared academically but not socially and neglect one of the other gives the children a disservice. Therefore it is needed and essential to know what you can do to prepare the "Whole Child" to become life-long learners especially up to age of five. I find schools, day cares, and Head Start partnering together is a great start for all involve. Public schools and private schools will tell you what they want you to know and how to teach those skills. Also I find it necessary to attend workshops, conferences, and staff developments even talk to a veteran educator.
Hello Andrea,
ReplyDeleteWhat a great topic, I look forward to learning more about your research. School readiness is so important and each year as a preschool teacher this topic always comes in to play, especially now as parents are enrolling their child/ren in Kindergarten. Good luck to you if I find any information through my own research I will gladly share.
Andrea,
ReplyDeleteI think this is a great topic. As a Kindergarten teacher I am very interested in this topic as well. I look forward to reading more about it as well.
